WHAT WE'RE BUILDING · COMING SOON

Not Yet: Checkout Blocker

A Safari and Chrome extension. Not affiliated with AvClock's aviation tools, built by the same person, coming soon.

This one isn't an aviation tool, so it won't live on the AvClock pages themselves, but I wanted to mention it here since it's built with the same approach: no account, no server, nothing collected, just something small that actually does one job well.

What It Actually Does

Not Yet: Checkout Blocker sits quietly until you land on an actual checkout or payment page, then it stops you before you can continue. Not with a countdown timer, and not with a "snooze" button you tap through without reading. It shows you a freshly generated, random code and asks you to retype it, character for character, before the Continue button unlocks. Nothing is cached or reused: reload the page and you get a brand new code. That's the entire mechanism. It's not trying to be clever, it's trying to buy a genuine few seconds of thought before a purchase goes through, the same few seconds that are easy to skip entirely when a "Buy Now" button is one tap away.

Why a Typed Code Instead of a Timer

A countdown just asks you to wait it out, which most people do without thinking about anything in particular. Retyping a code you can't predict or memorize takes just enough active attention that skipping past on autopilot isn't really possible. If retyping a code isn't the friction you want, there are two other ways to unlock a pause: answering a short reflection prompt, or a plain wait timer, picked once in Settings rather than offered as an in-the-moment choice.

Built to Feel Calm, Not Punishing

Shame-based framing tends to work against the exact thing it's trying to fix, so there's no red "STOP" screen here and no lecture. The block screen always includes a way out that isn't buying anything: a permanent, free "Quiet Place" you can send yourself to instead, with a short mood check-in and a few other things to do rather than shop. Checkout blocking covers ordinary online shopping, plus an opt-in category for gambling and betting sites specifically. It's a pause tool, not a treatment program, and it doesn't claim to be one.

Two Platforms, One Real Difference

Safari (iPhone, iPad, and Mac) carries an optional paid tier: a PIN-protected Guard Mode that makes the pause itself harder to turn off, custom themes, and a fuller stats recap, on top of everything free already covers. Chrome ships as a single, fully free build with none of that premium layer even visible, since Chrome has no built-in way to sell an extension without standing up a license server, and this app doesn't run one. Free, on either platform, already covers the actual blocking: every category, the code unlock, and the Quiet Place.

Not Yet: Checkout Blocker is still in development. No store link yet, this post is here so it's not a surprise when there is one. Check back on this blog for the actual release.

In the meantime, give AvClock a try
