What's New in the Menu Bar: Weather Alerts, a Better First Run, and a Built-In Map
The Mac menu bar app has picked up a handful of additions since it first shipped, all aimed at the same thing: making the Mac version feel like a first-class citizen next to iPhone, not a stripped-down companion.
Weather alerts, now on Mac too
iPhone's Weather Alerts (Premium) notify you when a saved airport's flight category changes — the Mac app now does the same. Since the menu bar app is typically running the whole time you're at your desk anyway, it checks in the background and lets you know the moment conditions shift, no BGTask scheduling gymnastics required the way iOS needs.
A real first run
New installs now get an actual introduction instead of landing on a bare dropdown: a welcome walkthrough covering the basics, a Learn More glossary explaining METAR, VFR/IFR, and the other aviation shorthand in plain English (the same reference the iPhone app has had in Settings), and a short walkthrough for adding AvClock's Desktop and Notification Center widgets.

Search has always worked well for finding a specific airport, but browsing visually is a different kind of task. The menu bar app now has a dedicated map screen — search, zoom, and add airports straight from it, with the same one-tap Apple Maps / Google Maps links as the airport detail view, without ever leaving the app.
All of this shares the same Universal Purchase as iPhone and iPad — unlock Premium once, and weather alerts, live METAR/VFR-IFR data, and everything else work identically across every platform AvClock runs on.
